Homeschooling our Many Blessings through this Beautiful Mess
Book Review: Teaching From Rest By Sarah Mackenzie
Tiffany and Laura have thoroughly enjoyed Sarah Mackenzie’s book Teaching from Rest: A Homeschooler’s Guide to Unshakable Peace. They discuss all three sections the book is divided into and really dive into what inspired them. This book is one they want to continue reading over and over!
Laura has been wanting to read this book for quite some time but never really took the time to sit down and read it. Since starting this podcast she thought this would be a perfect time to read and discuss the in’s and out’s of this book. Talking about it with friends is always better than going at it alone.
First off….this book is AHHHHMAZING!!!! Every homeschool mom needs to read this book. If you are even considering homeschooling, go ahead and add this to your Amazon cart because you will want a copy of this. I suggest grabbing the physical copy so you highlight and reference back to as many times as you want.
Sarah Mackenzie really puts herself right in the trenches and reassures every homeschool mom that she is just like us. She has been there. She knows how important it is to seek and find the place of rest in our homeschool.
She breaks this book into three parts:
Whose Well Done Are You Working For
Curriculum Is Not Something You Buy
Be Who You Are
Tiffany and Laura discuss each of these parts and the most important things they learned and will implement in their own homeschool.
This book introduces a mindset shift. Remembering what our true task really is, who is ultimately in control of our day (God), and the freedom to be who you are!

Laura has found a wonderful reading and phonics app for her little ones. The app is called Homer.
Homer is a paid membership that costs $7.99/month and you can download two different apps under one membership. There is Homer Reading and Homer stories. You can always try out their 30 free trial to see if this app is a fit for your child.
This app allows you to track your child’s progress and even tailors the content to the interest of your child. You can always log in at anytime and see how your child is doing and tweak it if you need to.
Laura was seeking for a reading app that would help her 5 year old recognize his number and letters and make learning fun in the process. It has been a popular thing in her house where everyone fights over who gets to play the “learning game” and they don’t want to stop. They are learning and they don’t even know it.
*Laura is in no way getting compensated for this review.
Tiffany is Diggin…
This week Tiffany is diggin’ The ABC123 Potty Training Watch! She heard about it from the Mommin’ Ain’t Easy Podcast and when Lexi started having more accidents than normal she decided to give it a try. Listen to the episode to see how it’s working out so far. Stay tuned for Episode 6 where she will give an update on how using the Potty Watch has been for Lexi.
